The Idea
In early 2023, the team at Componente Studio embarked on our second personal project, a creative expedition that took us to new imaginative heights. As a studio that thrives on personal projects, we saw this as an opportunity to blend storytelling with visually striking concepts. The result was a series of three stunning renders that featured nostalgic, everyday objects from the past—suspended in time and frozen in blocks of ice.
The story behind the project unfolded like a fictional adventure. Our team, taking on the roles of explorers, set off on a top-secret mission to a remote Antarctic location. Upon arrival, we were briefed by fellow expedition members about a remarkable discovery: a series of ancient frozen artifacts, perfectly preserved in ice. These relics of the past, familiar yet forgotten, seemed to hint at a lost era, buried beneath layers of frost.
The Process
Technically, we used Blender to model the objects and create the intricate ice details, carefully balancing realism with a touch of surrealism. Lighting played a crucial role, as we aimed to capture the cold, translucent quality of the ice while also highlighting the warm, familiar forms of the objects inside. We focused on crafting textures that conveyed both the fragility and resilience of these frozen pieces of history. This second personal project allowed us to stretch our creative muscles once again, blending storytelling, design, and technical expertise into a series of visuals that resonated deeply with our team. It became a testament to the power of personal projects at Componente Studio, giving us the freedom to explore new concepts and create without boundaries.
The Finished Product
At the start of 2023, the Componente Studio team embarked on a top-secret expedition to a remote Antarctic location. Upon arrival, they were informed by other expedition members that a series of frozen artifacts had been discovered, which could hold significant interest.
File Frozen Archive 01: Tamagotchi
During our Antarctic expedition, we unearthed an unexpected relic from the past—a Tamagotchi, frozen in ice for decades. The small, egg-shaped device, a nostalgic icon from the 1990s, was still intact, its screen dark and unresponsive at first. But as we thawed it from the icy depths, something incredible happened. The virtual alien pet, believed to have long "died" in its digital world, sprang to life.
To everyone’s amazement, the tiny creature had survived all these years—hungry, cold, and forgotten but still clinging to life. Its cheerful beeps broke the eerie Antarctic silence as if it were welcoming us after decades of isolation. Its pixelated eyes blinked with joy, grateful to have been found. The Tamagotchi, once thought to be a simple toy, now seemed more like a resilient artifact, defying time and the harsh Antarctic conditions. We couldn’t help but feel a strange bond with the little alien, as if its survival mirrored the enduring human spirit that led us to this desolate part of the world.
Now safe and sound, the Tamagotchi has become an honorary member of the Componente Studio team. We’ve made sure it’s well-fed and warm, giving it the care it’s been waiting for all these years. In return, it serves as a quirky reminder of the strange intersections between nostalgia, technology, and the stories frozen in time, waiting to be rediscovered.
File Frozen Archive 02: Flipper Zero
Among the icy depths of our Antarctic discovery, we uncovered another curious artifact: the Flipper Zero, a small yet powerful device coveted by internet pirates and hackers alike. This compact, five-button tool, sleek and deceptively simple in appearance, is renowned in the shadowy corners of the digital world for its versatile hacking capabilities. A pocket-sized marvel, the Flipper Zero is no ordinary gadget—it’s a gateway to hidden systems, encrypted doors, and untold networks, making it a favorite among those who walk the fine line between curiosity and mischief.
But what we didn’t expect was the Flipper’s most surprising feature: its virtual dolphin companion, a cheeky, pixelated mascot housed within the device. Though it spent years frozen in the Antarctic wasteland, the dolphin seems no worse for wear—playful and full of life, as though the cold hadn’t touched it at all.
While the Componente Studio team can’t make any promises about how—or whether—they’ll use the Flipper Zero’s more mischievous capabilities, they are committed to caring for their new digital dolphin friend. Whether it’s hacking the unknown or simply sharing a quiet moment with their virtual companion, the Flipper Zero has added yet another layer of intrigue to the studio’s growing collection of strange and fascinating finds.
Happy hacking… or maybe just happy swimming.
File Frozen Archive 03: Pokédex
In the latest chapter of our Antarctic findings, we stumbled upon a relic that would make any Pokémon trainer's heart skip a beat: the Pokédex. This handheld virtual encyclopedia, once a staple for every aspiring trainer, holds detailed entries on every known Pokémon species, offering insights into their physical characteristics, abilities, and power traits. For decades, it lay buried beneath the ice, its database dormant but preserved, waiting for a new chapter to begin.
The Componente Studio team couldn’t resist testing the device's capabilities. As fortune would have it, one of our team members already had a long-standing companion—an impressive Charizard, no less, proudly residing in their collection. Without hesitation, we uploaded the fiery dragon’s stats into the Pokédex, making it the first Pokémon officially stored in this ancient database since its icy slumber.
With its sleek design and nostalgic charm, the Pokédex is more than just a virtual archive—it's a symbol of endless discovery and adventure. Though the frozen tundra may be far from the lush grasslands of Kanto or the towering mountains of Johto, we like to think that somewhere, within the circuits of the Pokédex, our Charizard feels right at home.
As we continue to explore these long-lost artifacts, one thing is clear: even in the most remote corners of the earth, the spirit of adventure never truly fades.
